Apple users face hours of App Store, iTunes Store outage for reasons unknown, getting a 'Service unavailable' message

Apple faced an outage of services with the iTunes Store and the App Store on December 13. Apple fixed the outage after a few hours, but not before a lot of people took to Twitter to find out what went wrong. Apple acknowledge the outage on its System Status webpage, with a tag suggesting that ‘some users are affected by the issue’. Some iOS users reported about the inability to install apps and app updates.

The issue being faced by users gave them a message saying that ‘Service Unavailable’ across multiple devices. This meant that purchases and downloads of the App Store, Mac App Store and iTunes Store were affected. The Cupertino giant failed to specify the origin of the trouble, but appears to have it fixed.

The downtime of the iTunes and App Store comes within hours of Apple releasing new updates like tvOS 10.1, watchOS 3.1.1, iOS 10.2 and macOS Sierra 10.12.2.

For users of Apple products, if you want to check the status of your online services, you can look up Apple’s System Status page that gives current status of all ‘Apple Services, Stores, and iCloud’. For now the timeline shows no current outage in any service.
