Perfect dingy photos with Snapseed - Trick

Use this free app to bring dim and dark photos back to life with a few swipes

We’ve all done it – trying to capture that perfect moment but instead ending up with a dark and dull image that isn’t good enough to show anyone. Smartphone technology might have sped up in the past few years, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to be taking perfect snaps all the time. That camera on the back of your phone is no doubt impressive, but it can still let you down. That’s where Snapseed comes in. As well as letting you add a range of filters to your photographs, it also enables you to bring dim photos back to life. In this tutorial we’ll walk you through how you can sort out those images that aren’t quite up to scratch. It’s not the most complex thing you’ll attempt on your phone, but we’ll give you a few hints and tips to make sure you’re not going to be ashamed to show off those snaps ever again. All you’ll need to get started is your phone and an internet connection.

Steps:-

  • Load an image

You can download Snapseed for free from the Google Play Store. It won’t take very long to install, and so long as you’re running a device on Android 4.1 or higher, it’ll work fine. Once it’s installed, this is the first screen you’ll see. Tap on the Open photo button.

  • The choices

You’ll be presented with a selection of places you can open your images from. If it’s an image you’ve taken, then it’s going to be in Gallery. However, you have the option to download images from Drive, meaning you can use Snapseed to clean images that aren’t from your phone.

  • Find the photo

For now though, tap on Gallery. This will open up the Gallery app on your Android device. You can tap on the different folders to look for the image that you want to correct. Once you’ve found it, tap again to select it and then move on to the next step.

  • Tap thumbnail

You’ll now be shown a thumbnail of the image you’ve selected. It’s a slightly odd step in the process, and it doesn’t seem to serve any particular purpose. Just tap the image again to proceed. From here you’ll be taken back toSnapseed with the image that you selected open.

  • The image

This is the screen you’ll be presented with. You can already check out the profile of your picture along the bottom of the screen. If you want to see it without the UI, tap on the image itself. When you’re ready, tap the pencil button in thebottom-right corner.

  • Tweak brightness

The pencil menu will show you the variety of changes you can make to your photo. The one we’re interested in is the very first one in the list – Tune image. We’ll mention some of the other options later, but right now we’re interested in tweaking the picture’s brightness.

  • Take control

The controls can be a little bit confusing to begin with. To increase or decrease the brightness, you just need to drag a finger left or right along the screen. You’ll see a percentage changing at the bottom, and you’ll also be able to see the difference in the image.

  • That’s not all

There’s another menu you can access that lets you change a swathe of other options. To get to it, long press on the screen, then slide your finger down. When you’ve selected the process you want, lift your finger off the screen. You change the percentage in the same way.

  •  Get it saved

When you’re happy with the look of your photo, tap on the tick button in the bottom right. From here you can tap the Save button in the top-right corner. It’ll take a moment to make all your changes, and then it’ll save in the Snapseedfolder of your gallery.
